[5 Conversations With Christ] Discouragement

DAY 2 OF 4

Jesus brings clarity into confusion

Our two disciples heading to Emmaus were astonished at the stranger walking with them. He appeared to be the only person in all Jerusalem who didn’t know that Jesus, the Nazarene, was arrested by the chief priests and handed over to the Roman government to be crucified.

They clearly told that stranger that they had hoped Jesus would redeem Israel from their oppressors. Little did they know that stranger was Jesus! We can see that they were in despair because their hope was dead. Jesus heard them exclaim: “How could Jesus, the prophet, who did incredible miracles and was a mighty teacher, be dead!”

Wouldn’t you be confused as well?

Satan, we know, brings chaos and confusion. The book of Job 37:19 tells us that we are not able to think straight and prepare our case (our defense) because of darkness.

Job certainly was acquainted with despair and confusion. Haven’t we all been in such a place? A place where we are so troubled and confused, that we don’t even know what to do?

Now, let us look at Joseph’s predicament. He never expected that he was going to ascend higher than his brothers from the starting point of a well of despair, from enslavement and exile, and even from a prison.

The Lord said: “My thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways are My ways” (Isaiah 55:8, NKJV). We certainly cannot understand God’s ways. But is it here that we need to learn to trust God and decide to believe His mercies are greater than life. It is here that we must engage in spiritual warfare. Such a battle begins with faith and ends with obedience. We must not forget our battle is not against Josh, Miriam, our mother or our husband. It is against principalities, rulers and spiritual powers of evil. They are the ones who bring confusion, frustration and hopelessness.

Please remember: our knees are our best resource. The Word of God is the only effective weapon to conquer confusion, discouragement, and despair.
