Don't Believe Your EyesSample
Think about the word Nike for a second. What comes to mind? Nike has spent billions of dollars crafting a brand and the associations that come to mind when you hear their name or see their product on a shelf. They want to control the kinds of things you think about when you see their logo or name.
When Nicodemus went to visit Jesus, his entire reputation—his entire brand—was at stake. Everything he had worked for, everything he had studied for, everything he had spent years building. All of it. But he still had some nagging questions about what Jesus had been talking about, and it bothered him so much that he just had to do something about it. There was something about Jesus that drew him in.
Jesus showed him that everything he had done was not quite enough. He had to be born again. He had to start over, and this time, build his life right: not with the best image he could make for himself, but one that looked more and more like Christ every day.
Jesus gives us an opportunity to change everything, too. To be born again, a new person under His brand. Jesus told Nicodemus that everything hinges on one thing: believing in Him. You are not a brand. But you are loved so much that someone else died so that you could join His. All He asks from you is that you believe in Him.
