Captive No More: Freedom From Pain, Shame and Guilt

DAY 15 OF 30

How to Remain Spiritually Free

I will walk about in freedom, for I have sought out your precepts.
Psalm 119:45

Working for spiritual freedom is so important, but it’s like anything from dieting to exercise; without a plan, failure is almost certain. I want to talk about several tactical ideas for helping you stay on the path. Three keys are surrender, daily prayer, and retraining your brain.

The act of surrendering to God is an act of love and trust. Sacrificial love is the highest expression there is. God gave up His one and only beloved Son so that we may know everlasting life through salvation. We are asked to sacrifice our sinful, selfish desires to God so that He may guide us to a relationship with Him and others.

Talking about our daily walk with Christ, the best way to pursue that relationship is through daily prayer. Whether it’s our wife, kids, friends, or work, little to nothing gets done without communication.

God gifted you with an incredible computer- your body, and it’s yours to control. What you feed your mind is what your mind will feed upon. The term, “Thoughts that fire together, wire together,” is the perfect description of what happens in the programming of your brain.

You can do this if you are sincere, purposeful, and expectant. Once you are free, you must work to remain free.

Call To Action

  1. Write out a recurring negative thought in detail.
  2. Write out why you think that thought is so dominant in your mind.
  3. Write out a creative, imaginative description of a jailer taking that negative thought as a prisoner and subjecting it to the spiritual justice system.
  4. Write out three positive memories in detail.
