God of our Mothers and Fathers

Prepare: 

Become aware of the nearness of God. How would you like to respond to Him in this moment?

Read: 

❖ Genesis 28:11b-16

Consider:

In the past few years, DNA tests have become increasingly popular. With the rise of a more transient society, many people have a longing to find out more about their ancestry. In the past, many people lived in the same towns and cities from birth to the grave (as well as their parents and grandparents before them). Stories of the family and community were known by many. As a result a sense of identity, belonging and continuity seemed to be built into the culture. 

God has been working in your life and your ancestors' lives even if you may be unaware of it. 

Meditate:

What are some of the God  stories in your family and community?

Activate:

❖ Seek out the God stories of your family, church and community. 

❖ Schedule a time to chat with someone from an older generation about the work of God in their lives.

❖ Read Hebrews 11. Notice how God moved in the men and women in the Scriptures. Do you notice any similarities between yourself and them?

❖ Read some books or articles about church history.

❖ Write out your own spiritual autobiography.

Prayer:

Father, you are amazing. Please give me whatever I need to be the hands and feet of Christ today. Forgive me as I forgive others. Teach me to walk in step with your Spirit. Lead me away from all that would turn my eyes from you. I love you. Amen
