Is God Calling Me Into Full-Time Ministry? - 7 Questions to ConsiderSample
Day 2: What are my motives?
“Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me.” — Psalm 51:10
Full-time Christian service can be a wonderful way to use our gifts to build God’s Kingdom. Yet it is possible to pursue it because of misconceptions or wrong motives. Some have gone into ministry to please others, or to escape the discomforts of a secular workplace. Some even believe that God will love them more if they’re in “sacred” service rather than “secular” work.
If that’s you, know this: God couldn’t love you any more or any less than He already does. If you’re questioning this, just read Ephesians 1 afresh. Circle all the key words that God says about you: for example, you are chosen (v. 4), adopted (vv. 4-5), blessed (v. 6). What other blessings rise to the surface? Check your motives. Make sure they’re upright, honest. Once again, take it to the Lord in prayer.
Today’s Prayer:
Father, thank You for salvation, that in Christ I am Your adopted child. Bring home to my heart afresh that I am Your child, and that You couldn’t love me any more or any less than you already do. Search me at the heart level; expose my motives. Help me to know why I’m considering full-time ministry. I just want to make sure my motives are right. Lead me!
About this Plan
Maybe you’re looking at the pastors and staff in your local church and asking God if He’s calling you into full-time ministry as well. Or perhaps one or more Christian parachurch ministries has caught your attention; maybe they could use someone like you.
