Holy Emotions - Biblical Responses to Every ChallengeSample
I truly do not have any magic answers for your raging emotions, but I do have some insight into the Word of God for you. If you desire power to overcome and if you long for the ability to become who God created you to be, then you will first ask for His power. After you ask for the power, you will wait for the power. While you are waiting, you will continually devote yourself to prayer. Prayer changes me. I am a better person when I pray. My family likes me better when I pray while I wait. When I pray, I make wiser decisions and am a nicer, kinder version of myself. Perhaps the reason you don't like yourself during moments of emotional outrage is that you have not experienced the power or the posture of the wait. The most powerful people I know are men and women of God who love to wait on their knees. Kneeling is not a foreign, difficult position for these history-changing people because they understand that people who actually pray are the beneficiaries of heaven's power in their everyday lives. Do not ever underestimate the importance of the time that you spend daily on your knees, which will surely enable you to overcome your out-of-control emotions. Emotions are willful, youthful and sometimes violent and one of the most powerful forces in controlling a person's emotions is knee-time. The healing that takes place in a human soul while the body is in a position of prayer is eternal and miraculous. I cannot be like Jesus without time spent in His presence on my knees. I can "act" like Jesus without prayer. I can win an Academy Award for smiling sweetly and reciting kind platitudes while my heart is roaring and my mind is vengeful. Although I know how to say the proper words, you might want to notice the smoke coming out of my double-pierced ears! Jesus does not desire for me to merely act like Him, but He longs for me to be like Him, and there is a decided difference. The difference takes place when I wait and when I pray because it is then that He becomes Lord of my emotions and of my thought life.
