Walk Through The Bible 365 - MaySample
Are You In Training?
Paul uses many illustrations to explain the Christian life and one of them is that of running in a race. The athlete goes into strict training and lives a disciplined life all for winning a crown that is temporary. Paul encourages us to also live a disciplined life where we do not give into desires that corrupt us so that we too can win a crown, but there is a difference with this crown...this crown will last forever. We are therefore called to keep the crown and reward that God has promised us in Christ as our motivator and to lead a life of discipline and self-control. Let us not forget that one of the fruits of the Spirit is self-control.
Prayer: Lord, let us take to heart this example that Paul gives us to be like an athlete in training so that we live self-controlled, disciplined lives. And Lord, let us look forward to all that you have in store for us in eternity when you will give us our reward, a reward that will last forever. In Jesus' Name, Amen.
