Passport to Heaven

DAY 1 OF 5

In John 6, Jesus miraculously feeds five thousand people with only five loaves and two fish. Not only did each person eat until they were satisfied, but twelve baskets were filled with the remaining food. Jesus met each person’s temporal needs that day on the mountainside and had plenty leftover.

The following morning, the crowd discovered that Jesus was gone. Seeking the One who had provided food for them the night before, they crossed the Sea of Galilee and discovered Him with His disciples. When they approached Jesus, He rebuked them, saying, “Truly, truly, I say to you, you are seeking me, not because you saw signs, but because you ate your fill of the loaves.” Jesus recognized that they were seeking Him not to find spiritual nourishment, but to once again have their temporal needs met. They wanted their stomachs filled.

Jesus, knowing He had something infinitely greater to offer the people, said, “Do not work for the food that perishes, but for the food that endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give to you.” Jesus immediately pointed them to a greater food than that which can enter the stomach. What is this food? Jesus continued, “I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst.

Jesus’ declaration has life-changing implications. He, Himself, is the very manna that was sent down from heaven. To truly know Jesus—to eat of the Bread of Life—is to partake of that which satisfies eternally. If we believe in the Son of God, trusting in Him alone for our salvation, we will never be hungry again—not physically, but spiritually. Trust in Christ. Believe that He is who He says He is. Jesus is enough!

Have you partaken of the Bread of Life? Do you know that Jesus is all-sufficient to satisfy your every need?
