DAY 6 OF 10

Slaying the Giants in Your Life

And David said to the men who stood by him, “What shall be done for the man who kills this Philistine and takes away the reproach from Israel? For who is this uncircumcised Philistine, that he should defy the armies of the living God?”
1 Samuel 17:26 (ESV)

We all know the story of David, a shepherd boy, defeating Goliath, a giant who was over nine feet tall with full armor and javelin slung on his back. David went with two weapons he knew he could rely on: his trust in God and his shepherd’s sling. When others look at Goliath, they saw a giant too powerful to defeat. When David looked at Goliath, he saw a mortal man defying God and a target too big to miss. How a different perspective can make a difference!

David didn’t fight because of his confidence. He fought knowing that God would fight with him. Many of us today face giants of sin in our lives. Instead of retreating, we should fight by putting our trust in God and knowing that our God is greater. God can use us to defeat the giant.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, thank You for the David in our lives. Whatever giants or obstacles that we are facing today, we know that You are much bigger than the giants and we can rely on and trust in You. We will stand firm and watch You slaying the giants in our lives. In Jesus' name, Amen.

About this Plan

Through the Bible: 1st Samuel

The book of First Samuel describes Israel’s transition from theocracy to monarchy. God granted the Israelites’ request by asking Samuel, the last judge, to anoint Saul as king while warning them of the cost of a monarchy. Due to Saul’s disobedience, God resolved to replace him with David as the successor. Saul’s life gives us an important spiritual lesson: to obey God is better than to sacrifice for him.
