Our ProdigalsSample
Have you ever felt disappointed on Mother’s Day? You are not alone. Over the years, I have had the same feeling.
On Mother’s Day, most mothers desire a genuine appreciation and acknowledgment of their hard work from their spouses or adult children. Our culture says we “deserve” to be pampered and consider ourselves important for a day. Therefore, it is easy to become depressed when there is no surprise breakfast in bed from the hubby or a Happy Mother’s Day message from someone whose snotty nose we wiped or allowed to jump in bed with us when they were scared.
When everyone around me is getting their Mother’s Day treat, the ONLY place I find true comfort is in God. I look towards Him and remember my role is to reflect who He is and stop worrying because there is a bigger picture than just one day. Depression sets in when my eyes are on my circumstances instead of God’s purpose and plan.
Dear Mom experiencing disappointment on Mother’s Day—have you been in God’s Word lately? Have you thanked Him for His love and grace towards you? Are you looking for blessings rather than focusing on the process? I know I am not the only one who desires that her child treat her like a Queen on Mother’s Day. We do not post on social media because we do not want anyone to see our frustration and bitterness. Perhaps God is saying to us, “run to Me and Me alone.” In Him, we will better grasp where our true sense of value comes from, long less for special treatment, become selfless, and be more like Jesus. After all, “well done my good and faithful servant” (Matthew 25:21) are words we should desire to hear the most.
