Through the Bible: Ruth

DAY 2 OF 3

Coincidences Are God Ordained

So she went out, entered a field and began to glean behind the harvesters. As it turned out, she was working in a field belonging to Boaz, who was from the clan of Elimelek.
Ruth 2:3 (ESV)

Ruth, a Moabite, followed her mother-in-law to the land of Israel. New to the country, she wanted to gather grain in whosoever's field she found favour. What is the probability that the field Ruth chose happened to be owned by a relative of her family-in-law?

When things just happen in our life, do we see them merely as coincidences, or as God revealing His plans in them? A small group from a church in Hong Kong visited our church in Vietnam during the time when we were preparing to move to Hong Kong. After moving, we found the nearest small group to us which just so happened to be the same group we met in Vietnam, and they helped us settle into the new country.

‘Coincidences’ ordained by God have a larger purpose. Who would have thought that Ruth, a Moabite woman, would end up in the genealogy of Jesus? We will see God's purpose revealed in our lives as we acknowledge God in the ‘coincidences’.

Prayer:

Lord, open our eyes to see You in the ‘coincidences’ in our life as You reveal Your purposes. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

About this Plan

Through the Bible: Ruth

The story of Ruth served as a light in the dark times of Judges. Naomi selflessly put aside her needs and planned for Ruth’s future. Ruth, however, put her destiny at stake by choosing commitment over comfort. And last, Boaz faithfully rescued these two utterly defenseless widows. These characters together reflect God’s perpetual faithfulness to His people, encouraging us to always trust in Him regardless of the circumstances.
