Build an Ark
God asks Noah to take action, to do something specific. Basically, He is saying, “You are righteous in a corrupt world, so here is what I want you to do… Noah, I want you to build an ark. Make it just like this.”
God gives the instruction and the blueprint, and Noah does all that God commanded him. Even though the people around him thought that he was crazy, Noah did everything as he was told.
We are not so different. We are believers, living in a corrupt world, seeking intimacy with God. He has given us something to do. We’ve got our marching orders, just like Noah.
God has commanded us to build an ark. Our ark is the life we live, one that exhibits the resurrection power of Jesus. Our blueprint is Jesus’ commands.
That is what will save us from the negative consequences of sin. And like Noah, when we walk in the resurrection power of Jesus, we gain great reward.
As God commands us to act, he gives us the specifications—the dimensions and limitations of a well-lived life.
We are all called to be ark-builders, to construct a life, decision by decision, in obedience to the Lord. In the beginning, this walk may be hard, but day by day it becomes a little easier and rewarding.
What is the condition of your ark? Have you followed the specifications? Will it stand when the weather turns sour? Noah is mentioned in numerous places in the Bible as an example of obedience. Let’s build our ark just the way Jesus told us to.
Let’s pray to the Lord, asking for His help to build our lives according to His purpose and direction. Every time we follow Scripture or make a decision considering its principles, we are building our ark in the right way. We need to acknowledge if we have not been obedient ark-builders and make a commitment today to seek His will and direction every day of our lives, according to the principles we find in the Bible. If you have been following His specifications for your ark, pray and ask God for strength and determination so nothing may move you apart from Him.
