How Do You Respond to Jesus?Sample
Different responses to Jesus
Jesus’ ministry of teaching and healing attracted large crowds. His miracles were spectacular and people wanted to see Him for themselves. Moreover, they wondered whether Jesus could be the long-awaited Messiah who would bring salvation and restoration for the people of Israel.
The gospels describe different responses to Jesus. Some people believed that He was a prophet. Others were convinced that He was the Christ — and they were right. The religious authorities were skeptical and the high priests wanted to arrest Him. Others just turned away since Jesus did not meet their expectations.
Jesus knew that people would respond differently to Him. He told his disciples: “Do you think that I have come to give peace on earth? No, I tell you, but rather division. For from now on in one house there will be five divided, three against two and two against three.” (Luke 12:51-52) Our response to Jesus has a huge impact on our life; first on our relationship with God, but also on our relationship with people around us. It can create division among dearest friends, or turn total strangers into spiritual brothers and sisters.
