Jesus-Centered Family DevotionsSample
“So now I am giving you a new commandment: Love each other. Just as I have loved you, you should love each other.”
(John 13:34)
Say: What are some words that describe how Jesus loves us? After family members suggest words, say: If that’s how Jesus loves us, that’s how Jesus wants us to love each other—including the people in our family.
The good news is I’ve seen us love each other in some amazing ways.
Briefly tell each family member how you’ve seen him or her love others within the family. Encourage family members to share how they’ve seen each other be loving as well. And be sure you find out how you’ve been loving, too.
Say: Let’s ask Jesus to help us feel how deep and wide his love for us really is. Let’s sit quietly for two minutes and ask that Jesus bring to our minds just how much he loves us…and how much he wants us to love others.
After two minutes have passed, ask if anyone was nudged with a word, Bible verse, or mental picture—anything that might be Jesus speaking into a family member about his love. Talk about whatever a family member heard or saw while waiting on Jesus.

About this Plan
No-Prep, Zero-Guilt, Perfect-Fit Family Devotions for You and Your Crew. Family devotions have gotten a bad rap…and often for good reason. They can be rigid, yawn-worthy interruptions in life rather than fun, affirming opportunities for Jesus to spend time with your family. But these devotions—they’re the good stuff, because they’re a bit unpredictable (as in not boring). Because your kids aren’t just observers—they’re participants. And because Jesus will show up to speak to you and your crew about your family, life, and himself. He’ll come because you’ll ask, and you’re making room for him. So enjoy your time with Jesus—and each other.
