How to Thank God in the Midst of TroublesSample
Are you anxious? 😥
Prayer is a beautiful time to develop an attitude of being thankful. Thanksgiving doesn’t come naturally. All of us get anxious, stressed, angry, and fearful at times. It’s very normal; we are all human beings. However, the Bible teaches us, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.” (Philippians 4:6, NIV)
Do you find it hard to “be anxious for nothing?” I do.
Let’s unwrap this principle a little more so we can apply it to our lives.
- Anxiety (in Greek, “troubled with care”) is normal, but we can get rid of it. Medical research now tells us anxiety can ruin your emotional, spiritual, and relational health.
- Prayer is the key, and it starts with something like this: “Oh God, I’m super anxious about my children right now. Please remove the anxiety and help me live in faith and peace.”
- Thanksgiving is added to prayer because it’s powerful in its own right, but it also says, “God, thank You in advance for the answers to my prayer.” It’s faith in action.
- “Let your requests be made known to God.” Please ask God for anything. He loves you, and He cares about your concerns.
My mom turned 100 on November 6, and I attribute her longevity to the prayers of my grandchildren and her habit of listing her prayers. I’ll never forget the little list on scrap paper in her purse. Each time a prayer would be answered, she would mark it as answered. Wow! That’s so powerful!
Do you have your prayer requests written down? Notice the promise that follows this verse: “And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:7, NIV)
Anxiety + Prayer + Thanksgiving + Requests = Peace.
Would you pray with me? “Hey Father, I love You. And I can’t help but be honest—I’m anxious about this virus, my finances, and my family. Please answer my requests. And by the way, thank You in advance for the answers.”
You can pray these prayers because you’re a miracle.
