Take What You Need

DAY 4 OF 7

 Receive:

When you hear the term “grace,” what comes to mind? If we’re honest, many of us kind of know what it is and kind of don’t. I’ve heard it said that “Grace is the most overused and most under defined word in the church.” The Bible presents grace as the free gift of mercy or favor that God is offering to us through Jesus even though we don’t deserve it. One theologian described it as the experience of “God reaching downward to people who are in rebellion against him.”

It is BY grace that we are able to have salvation. It is BY grace that we are able to have forgiveness. It is BY grace that we can have a relationship with God. Grace is the foundation of our faith. Jesus came in grace and truth. Some of us need to receive that grace today. Maybe we have a relationship with Jesus and have received the gift of grace through salvation, but we don’t live as if this is true when we constantly hold our mess ups against ourselves. Maybe you have a pretty good understanding of grace, and even help others to understand it better, but you haven’t personally received it.

Our prayer is for you to receive the grace that God desires to give you today.

Respond:

I want to give you a simple tool that can help you meditate on this principle. Ephesians 2:8 says, “God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God.” Spend some time reflecting on how it feels to receive a gift.  How might this change how you think about grace?
