How to Live a Good Life: A Study for Kids

DAY 2 OF 5

PRAYER

By Nick Kalb

Story

Have you ever wanted something so bad that you just had to ask your parents over and over again? Once while my mom and I were shopping, I saw a video I really wanted. I asked her the first time, and she said, “No.” I knew time was short since she was almost done, so I went in hard and asked her over and over. By the time she was ready to check out, she was steaming mad, but also worn out by hearing me ask for it. She bought the game—though she didn’t want to speak to me the rest of the night.

It was selfish of me to bug my mom, but the energy I put into asking my mom for something is EXACTLY the kind of hustle God wants when we pray.

Bible

“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you” — Matthew 7:7

Think

The easiest prayers are when we really want something for ourselves, but it turns out there are lots of reasons to pray. We pray when we thank God, tell Him we’re sorry, worship, and ask for help for someone else!

Prayer is important because it gives us a chance to talk with the Creator of the universe. When we pray, God changes our hearts to become more like His. If you practice prayer, you’ll notice a change in the way you see the world; you’ll notice things other people don’t. The best news: You can pray anytime and anywhere, because God is always ready to hear from you. God wants us to talk with Him constantly.  If we do, we get to see Him work through the things we bring to Him.

Do Something

Stop and think for a moment and find something to thank God for, something that someone else needs, and something that you need help with. Talk to God about those things. As you continue on with your day, keep talking to Him!  Think of things throughout your day to bring to Him.

Pray

Dear God, thank You for making a way that we can talk with You.  Help me to remember to pray every day, that I would be able to see You work.  In Jesus’ name. Amen.
