Through the Bible: JudgesSample
Not My Strength
The Lord said to Gideon, “The people with you are too many for me to give the Midianites into their hand, lest Israel boast over me, saying, ‘My own hand has saved me.”
Judges 7:2 (ESV)
Gideon was appointed to save Israel out of the hands of the oppressive Midianites. But Gideon asked, "why me?" as his clan was the weakest in Manasseh and he was the least in his father's house (Joshua 6:15). An angel assured Gideon that the Lord was with him. To further demonstrate God’s strength, God only gave Gideon 300 men and they defeated the Midianites.
The Bible is full of reminders that we need to have faith to depend on God. When God calls us, He will give us the strength, wisdom and the resources. All we need is to depend on God and to live by faith.
Prayer:
Dear Heavenly Father, teach us to trust in You, even when the challenges or the trials seem too big for us. Forgive us at times when we doubt Your plans. Lord we pray that we, too, can be a mighty warrior. In Jesus' name, Amen.
About this Plan
Judges describes the deteriorating cycle of the Israelites following Joshua’s death. Because of idolatry, the Israelites were oppressed by the enemies. When they repented, God raised up judges to deliver them. Soon they forgot and fell into evil, and the vicious cycle continued. Even today, leaders are sent to deliver us but a true salvation takes place only when our hearts are obedient to the one King who remains forever.
