The Power of Christ: Declaring His Authority Over Your Life

DAY 3 OF 3

The Authority Given to Us

Authority is good, but I want to make you reach for more and have you walk in dominion. I explain authority as something we release as we need it. We see a need, pray for the Holy Spirit’s leading, and release our authority. As Christians it should not stop with authority; we should rule and reign in dominion. When we worship, we may lift our hands and feel the presence of God, and it is good. There are times we go past the presence of God, and we feel the weightiness of His glory. It is as if holy fear comes upon us, and sometimes we think, “Oh my, God is right here, right now.” In worship, we can feel the energy or thickness of God’s weighty glory in the atmosphere. God’s glory manifests differently. However, we know God’s glory is the ultimate place to achieve in worship.

With worship, we move through the presence to get to the glory. With authority, we move past authority to walk and rule and reign in dominion.

However, I believe many times after we have prayed with authority, we put that authority back on the shelf until we need it again. But dominion should be something we rule and reign in, not something we pick and choose when to use.

Then God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth.” —GENESIS 1:28, NKJV

We read in Genesis 1:26, “Then God said, ‘Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness’” (NKJV). Our indicates the Trinity—the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. We know that the Trinity has dominion and authority over everything. Therefore, since our identity is in Christ and we are made in the image of God, we have His dominion. The Holy Spirit is in us, God gave us dominion, and Jesus gave us His authority.

We have authority, and no harm can come to us if we exude that authority. The enemy may attack and try to penetrate us, but as we confess God’s Word, we can be healed, delivered, and protected.

I give you authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy. And nothing shall by any means hurt you. —LUKE 10:19
