Fear - SE StudentsSample
Yesterday we took account of what we’re afraid of. Today we begin to face it head-on instead of hiding or running from it. The best way to face our fears is to face our God and recognize who He is. David starts out Psalm 27 by talking about who God is. He says the Lord is three things: light, salvation, and his stronghold/protector. These characteristics of God are not random, and they give David the confidence to remind himself, “of whom shall I be afraid?”
These three characteristics of God are the very three things we need the most when we are afraid. When we fear, we often feel like we’re in the dark. When we are in the dark, we need LIGHT. When we are afraid, we need a RESCUER, and His salvation is our rescue. When we fear, we need PROTECTION, and the Lord Himself is our place of safety.
No matter what we fear, we can count on God to be exactly what we need. When we recognize who God is, it will diminish the power our fear has over us. Who He is, gives us the confidence to say like David, “of whom [or what] shall I be afraid?”
