Walking With Lions

DAY 3 OF 7

I don’t know about you, but my shirt and pants don’t jump onto my body in the morning. I have to intentionally pick them out and put them on. In the same way, humility isn’t a natural, effortless condition of the human heart. We compare and compete, and the inevitable result is that we feel superior to some and inferior to others. In fact, every encounter is a measuring stick to see how we stack up. The way out isn’t to berate ourselves. As the saying goes, "humility isn’t thinking less of ourselves; it’s thinking of ourselves less." And, we can only take our eyes off ourselves if we realize we already have the most secure identity in the world. We’re loved and accepted by the King of creation!

A wise person observed, “A friend is someone who understands your past, believes in your future, and accepts you just the way you are.”

Lions are secure enough to lower their guard and take the risk of caring for people.

  • Father, You give grace to the humble, and I need Your grace to stop comparing myself to others. Only then can I love people instead of being afraid of them . . . or using them as stepping stones to my own success.

About this Plan

Walking With Lions

In at least one way, we are not that different: Every person on the planet longs to be both fully known and deeply loved. Not one or the other, both of these are desired. The concepts in this devotional apply to staff teams, small groups, families, and friends. If you believe life-change happens in relationships, this devotional is for you.
