Women and Money - She Handled It!

DAY 4 OF 7

Day 4: More than you could ask or think

After getting saved, my daily effort in my work and biblical study was great, but my prayers were extremely frail and small. I had just messed up my whole life (I thought), by getting divorced, so I believed that I needed to earn the right to ask God for big things. I kept my prayers little and unobtrusive. “God, give me enough money to pay my bills or to go out to dinner.” That was it. I accepted a job to cover my monthly expenses. That was the extent of my “wish list.” But God is not a barely-get-by type of God. He is an “exceedingly, abundantly more than we could ask or think” kind of God (Ephesian 3:20)!

That man who hired me to work at his new financial planning firm became my business mentor, business partner and eventually, my husband and father to our three boys. Accepting Christ two weeks after I began to work for Randy was also the catalyst that brought my future husband back to his walk with Jesus. God is so cool that way! We have now enjoyed more than twenty years of an ever-growing relationship together and with Christ at the center.

Isn’t it great that God is not limited by our small-minded, fear-based and insecure prayers? He didn’t just want me to make my rent payment, He wanted me to empower and lead thousands of women into seeing themselves of greater value. I could have never imagined that. He wants big things for you, too. He wants to meet all your needs, and to bless you by being a blessing to others! But it starts at home.

Ignorance and avoidance won’t pay your bills. Faith without works is dead (James 2:26). What are you doing in private (Proverbs 31:27)? After getting saved, I became obsessed with this man named Jesus and the deep affection He had towards me, despite my brokenness. AND He also had some great insight about how I handle my money.

Reflection: I found that reading is one of the most non-judgmental ways to learn things about myself and find places within that need to change. What are you reading in your downtime to become more financially educated than you are today?

Tip: Buy, download or check out from the library three books written directly to women on money. Just the financial basics, nothing deep or too complicated. Get inspired and educated.
