Filthy Lucre
If the mind is always overwhelmed with thoughts of money, then it is a disease that needs to be addressed immediately. People get into depression when they cannot perform to their full potential. Psychiatric treatment may even be recommended. The fact is we sacrifice the present, thinking about and investing in the future.
A businessman attended a gospel meeting. The man of God was preaching about faith. However, the businessman blurted out, “How can you do without money?” Maybe he could not differentiate between necessity and obsession. Since he was a business magnate, nobody dared to confront him. A decade later, his flourishing business crumbled. He shut down his sprawling campus and the extravagant business and quit. This is a real-life incident. We are accountable to God for the words we speak and more so when we speak against the Scripture. Being conscious about our attitude in God’s presence is very important.
People of this generation unfortunately dream about quick money. However, the Bible says, The love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. When we lose sight of faith, then covetousness gets a stranglehold on our lives. When the love of money strangulates the innermost being, we sway to whatever Satan whispers! People get engrossed in stock markets even during office hours. When they are neck-deep, then they realize that things are out of control. The lure of money can be terrible and suicidal. The regret would be too costly at the end of our time on earth when we would have completed our life’s journey.
I have seen all the things that are done under the sun; all of them are meaningless, a chasing after the wind (Ecc 1:14). These are the words of the Preacher (i.e., King Solomon, the wise man). Luxury and wealth cannot fill the deepest spiritual desire of a yearning heart. Man is a spiritual being and that need should be satisfied. A longing heart and an anguishing soul would truly value the fullness of joy through Christ Jesus. Let us trust in the Word of God that can meet all our personal and spiritual needs.
O Lord, teach me to be content and bless me with a God-fearing heart. Amen

About this Plan
Even a king with all his wealth and grandeur found another man’s vineyard appealing in I Kings 21. Irrespective of our official position, greed can get the better of us at unguarded moments. But covetousness has no place in godliness. Aldrin Joseph calls us to examine ourselves today since gaining riches and wealth will not satiate the spirit which is famished with deep spiritual hunger.
