Rekindling Romance in Your MarriageSample
The Right Attitude
Song of Songs 1:15-16 “How beautiful you are my darling, how beautiful! Your eyes are like doves. You are so handsome, my love, pleasing beyond words! The soft grass is our bed.”
Once again, we encourage you to take care of your marriage by scheduling at least two hours EVERY week for just the two of you. Here are some ideas to help you put those special times in place.
Your heart’s disposition is very important:
- Prepare your heart for this RD. Do not let these precious moments be stolen. Ask God to share something with you about your spouse during the day before your RD.
- Your heart needs to be open, tender, compassionate and empathetic. Fight all feelings of anger, bitterness, revenge and indifference.
Your listening disposition is also very important:
- The openness and transparency of your heart will set the tone for your conversation. Create a safe atmosphere. You can, for example, send messages to one another with soft, tender words full of blessings and truth that you believe and desire to speak over your spouse.
- When you are finally together, ask them questions and be interested in their answers.
- Validate their feelings. An easy option is to simply repeat the sentence that your spouse said, by saying it in your words: "I hear you saying that..."
Here are some more topic ideas for conversation:
- What are the reasons you are grateful for your childhood?
- What struggles did you face during your childhood?
- What are the traditions that marked your childhood and that you would like us to keep a part of our family life?
- What moments together have you enjoyed the most in our years together?
- What are your happiest memories?
- Do you think of me when we are a part?
- What qualities do you see in me that you liked at the beginning of our relationship?
- What makes you angry with me today? (Don’t be surprised, they are often the same as the previous answer...)
…to be continued!
