You Are God's FieldSample
God involves people in His work
When the apostle Paul is writing about his ministry as a missionary, he says that he is God’s fellow worker. He has planted the Gospel in God’s field. Other missionaries have watered the field, and God has granted growth. Paul stresses that this growth is fully dependent on God, not on human effort. But at the same time, believers are called to faithfully labor in planting and watering. As God’s fellow workers, they will receive their wages according to their labor.
God could have decided to carry out all the work himself. But He chose to involve humans. He chose the preaching of the Gospel as the main way of saving people, and Jesus assigned to His disciples the task of spreading the good news to the ends of the earth.
Some people are called to “plant”, also to do the pioneering work of evangelism and mission. Others are called to “water”, also to help people grow in faith and to mentor new believers. Not all have the same gifts and calling. But together, believers are “the body of Christ”, involved in his salvation work.
Are you a “fellow worker” with God?
About this Plan
In several parables, Jesus compares the Kingdom of God to a field where a man sows seed. This reading plan seeks to discover which spiritual lessons we can learn from Jesus’ parables and from other Bible verses about seeds and sowing. Thanks to Gospel Images for the beautiful image.
