Walking With Jesus

DAY 7 OF 40

On this final day of our first week, I want us to recap what we’ve focused on this week. What is temptation? Temptation is anything that promises satisfaction at the cost of obedience to God. It’s important to know that it is not a sin to be tempted because Jesus himself was tempted. Hebrews tells us in Hebrews 4:15

For we do not have a high priest [Jesus] who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin.

Jesus is faced with three temptations. These temptations are described as lust of the flesh, the pride of life, and the lust of the flesh.

Lust of the flesh says “I want it.”

The pride of life says “I can handle it.”

Lust of the eyes says “I deserve it.”

So here’s what we want to do. We want to replace these thoughts with the truth of God’s Word just like Jesus did.

“I want God.” Jesus said ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’

“More of you Jesus and less of me.” Jesus said “It is also written: ‘Do not put the Lord your God to the test.’

“Only Jesus.” “Away from me, Satan! For it is written: ‘Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only.’

Can you see how Jesus’ focus on God, Scripture, and His mission led Him to overcome temptation? Before God does something through us, He must do a work in us. These 40 days prepared Jesus for what was to come. I’m so excited that we are on this journey together. Keep it up.

Today’s Scripture: Matthew 4: 1-11

Pray. Ask God to reveal to you His truths as you read His Word. Don’t skip this important step.

Read: As you read ask the “5 W’s and an H” questions: Who? What? When? Where? Why? How?

Daily Challenge: Can you say all three of the Scriptures Jesus responded with? Are you allowing God to do a work in your life so He can do a work through your life?
