More Like Jesus, Less Like Me: A Three-Day Reading Plan by Zach Williams

DAY 2 OF 3

Day 2: Seeing Past Ourselves.

Somebody with a hurt that I could have helped

Somebody with a hand that I could have held

When I just can’t see past myself

Oh Lord help me be

There is a quote by Saint Teresa of Avila that says, “Christ has no body on earth but yours, no hands but yours, no feet but yours. Yours are the eyes through which Christ’s compassion for the world is to look out; yours are the feet with which He is to go about doing good; and yours are the hands with which He is to bless us now.”

What does being the hands and feet of Jesus really look like? Does it mean that we have to be really talented? Does it mean that we have to be really rich? Does it mean that we have to have it all together and be saints ourselves? The answer to all of those questions is, “NO!”  We are Jesus’ hands and feet because we are His children! That’s it!

So, what can being the hands and feet of Jesus look like today? When we look at our lives, all the people we interact with—whether in person, via email, via phone call, when we look at our time, when we look at the resources we have, there are many opportunities to be Jesus’ hands and feet.

When we wake up in the morning, what if we make the choice to be Jesus’ hands and feet in one instance? It doesn’t have to be a huge life change, but just one small instance. It doesn’t need to be a grand gesture. It doesn’t need to be a loud declaration. It doesn’t need to be an extraordinary act. It just needs to be authentically coming from the desire to share God’s love - a smile, a compliment, a question about how someone is doing, a card in the mail, taking care of the next coffee order… I guarantee there is an opportunity coming up to do just that.

Prayer:

Lord, help us to recognize the opportunities to be your hands and feet. Thank you for loving us so we can love those around us. Amen.
