Fall in Love With God's Word: Practical Strategies for Busy Women

DAY 1 OF 5

Day 1: Fall in Love with God’s Word

Every year, it’s always the same. January 1st rolls around, and I make way too many New Year’s Resolutions.

It doesn’t matter that I failed at every one of my resolutions last year. This year is going to be different. This is the year I’m finally going to eat healthy, get more exercise, tackle our debt, grow my business, be the perfect wife and mother, and get more sleep!

Of course, you can probably guess how that typically turns out. Within a week or two, I’m back to all my old habits, the excitement of the new year having since worn off. Can you relate?

Unfortunately for us, this common phenomenon doesn’t happen only with the New Year’s Resolutions we set each year. It can happen with our spiritual goals as well.

Have you ever started a Bible reading plan, devotional, or Bible study, only to get distracted and not finish it? Have you ever committed to reading God’s Word for yourself for a certain amount of time each day, only to not follow through?

You want to read God’s Word regularly. You know it’s important. You want to make time in God’s Word a priority. And yet, for whatever reason, you struggle to spend as much time in Scripture as you’d like.

Or if you do keep up with your daily Bible readings, it isn’t long before they start to feel tired, boring, routine, or dry. Your mind starts to wander, and within fifteen minutes of closing your Bible, you can’t even remember what you just read!

Don’t worry, it happens to the best of us—myself included.

But what if it didn’t have to be this way? What if we didn’t merely read God’s Word out of duty, obligation, or habit, but because we truly enjoyed and looked forward to time in God’s Word?

What if we found God’s Word relevant, encouraging, helpful, and just what we needed, right when we needed it most? And what if the simple act of reading our Bibles each day not only helped us fall more in love with God and His Word, but also sparked a beautiful revival in our hearts as well?

The good news is, it can.

Personally, I’m so inspired by the example we read in Psalm 119.

This unnamed Psalmist didn’t merely enjoy God’s Word—he delighted in it. In fact, he uses the word “delight” nine times in one chapter—all in reference to God’s Word.

He uses phrases like, “I seek you with all my heart,” “I rejoice in following your statutes,” and “I will not neglect your word.” Surely this is a man in love with God’s Word. May God help us be women who love His Word as well.

Today’s Challenge: As you read through today’s daily Bible reading, ask yourself, “What’s preventing me from loving God’s Word this way, if anything?”
