Flashlight Night

DAY 2 OF 5

How Long Do I Have to Wait?

“You sure are brave, to share your prayers,”

Mom says, with her big bright smile.

“Let’s give all our worries to God

And come back here in a while.”

To me, a while feels like forever

Actually: Forever plus two!

Is that how long I’ll have to wait

Until I see what God will do?

Devotion

Sometimes it can be hard to wait for God to answer our prayers. A lot of people in the Bible, like David, had to wait a long time to hear from God. Do you know what they did while they waited? They kept praying! They kept talking to God. Even when their prayers weren’t answered right away, God helped them be strong and brave and patient while they waited.

Sometimes learning to wait for God to answer our prayers is even more important than His answer!

Question

What is something you have waited for? What does it feel like to wait?

Prayer

Dear God, I have waited a long time for you to answer my prayer for ______. Help me to be strong and brave and patient. I know You know the best time to answer my prayers! Amen.

Activity

Practice patience: Popcorn is a good example of waiting being worth it! Imagine if you did not wait and just ate the kernels (Yuck!) Waiting for a bag to pop in the microwave feels like the longest minute ever, right! But it is worth it! Ask a grownup to help you pop a bag of popcorn - or make a homemade snack, and remember how sweet and good it is to wait!

About this Plan

Flashlight Night

As we encourage our children to take their concerns to God, we know they may be confused or discouraged when He doesn’t seem to answer. With excerpts from the book Flashlight Night, explore this dilemma from a kid’s perspective, helping your child see that, however things may appear, God hears and cares about every prayer.
