Stand Firm: Standing Firm In Your Faith Against Deception

DAY 6 OF 7

Day 6: Holding Your Post

By now I hope you’re feeling more equipped in your understanding of deception and feeling like you can hold your post for the Kingdom! You’ve seen from Scripture what deception looks like, who participates in it, why they seek to deceive, and whom they seek to lead astray. Most importantly, I pray that your heart better understands the magnitude of knowing what God says in His Word and why He says it.

I’m sure as you’ve read through parts of the Bible, you’ve walked away with thoughts like, “God, why did you say that?” or “God, why do you care about that?”. It’s these questions that all believers need to take to the Lord. Not only do we need to take them to Him, but we must turn to His word for understanding. Why?These are the very questions that the enemy desires us to entertain but never seek to understand. If we stay in the place of not knowing what God’s Word says or why God commands a certain standard of living, we can't combat the enemy with truth when he comes lurking with his lies.

You see, from Genesis to Revelation, we’re reminded to write God’s Word on our heart, bind it around our neck, write it on our doorposts, and stand firm in the truth that God has the final say. (Deut. 6:6-9; Prov. 6:21, Rev. 3:21). Even though we know that it says this, do we know why God commands this? Do we really know why God cares if we know the Word for ourselves? If you don't know, I want to tell you, and if you do know, I want to remind you; it's because He wants a personal relationship with you, He wants to be Lord of your life, He wants you to have a faith that is built on a firm foundation.

Holding our post in this world isn’t going to be an easy task. It’s one that comes with a deep love for God and His heart; to know Him and make Him known; to lead others in the truth that’s been imparted to us and to teach others what it means to be a true follower of Christ.

I think of Job, a man who suffered greatly but never left his post. While his heart was overcome with waves of grief, deep sorrow, and unimaginable affliction, he never abandoned his faith in the Lord. He trusted in God’s sovereignty and plans for his life. Job’s deep relationship with the Lord is woven through every part of his story.

He held his post because he knew what God said, and he trusted God’s heart. What an example Job’s life is for us. He was a man who suffered much but had a faith that couldn’t be moved. And it was all because he desired to know God deeply and live for Him fully, no matter the cost.

Scripture Reading

Job 42:1-6 esv

Then Job answered the Lord and said: 2 “I know that you can do all things, and that no purpose of yours can be thwarted. 3 ‘Who is this that hides counsel without knowledge? ’Therefore I have uttered what I did not understand, things too wonderful for me, which I did not know. 4 ‘Hear, and I will speak; I will question you, and you make it known to me.’ 5 I had heard of you by the hearing of the ear, but now my eye sees you; 6 therefore I despise myself, and repent in dust and ashes.”

Prayer Prompt

Lord, what a gift it is to know your heart for us. Thank you for desiring a personal relationship with your children and sending your Son to take our place so that we could be made right with you. I ask that my heart would desire to understand the things of your Word more deeply. Create in me a yearning for answers from your Word. Lord, I ask for perseverance to go deeper in my walk with you and not be okay with complacency. Lord, I pray for firmness in my faith to hold my post, and never waver in what I know to be true of you! In Jesus’s name, amen.

About this Plan

Stand Firm: Standing Firm In Your Faith Against Deception

This 7 day devotional was designed to stir up in you a desire to stand firm in your faith against deception. Throughout the Bible we're told there will be those who desire to lead people astray, lure by deceit, and captive unsteady souls. We as followers of Christ must be armored up, on alert, and ready to hold our position for God's truth as we stand firm for the Kingdom.
