Living a Life That Honors GodSample
The Role of Wives Within Marriage
The Bible has a clear view on manhood and womanhood. “God created man in his own image … male and female he created them” (Genesis 1:27).
Men and women were purposely created differently. God did not like them to be the same in every respect. In marriage, husband and wife each have their own role. Wives are called to “be subject to your own husbands”. This subjection of women does not mean that they blindly follow their husbands in everything. Peter addresses Christian wives who have a non-believing husband. That was astonishing in those days, since wives were supposed to follow their husbands’ religion, to have the same friends as him, and so on. Not so with Peter’s readers. He says they should submit to their husbands, but their devotion to the Lord goes above and beyond that. Women are free to follow Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior, even if their husbands don’t. But in such situations, their submissive conduct is all the more important as a witness, so that their husbands might be attracted to the Gospel when they see their wives’ respectful and pure conduct.
Is your attitude a positive witness for your husband or other people around you?
