Seven Types of Sabbath for Our Modern Culture!Sample
Introduction to Sabbath Rest
Our Western society is built on the idea of constant movement. We move from place to place, meeting to meeting, and thought to thought rapidly. Our goals are set to grow bigger, better, and faster. Seldom do we hear a cry from our world’s pulpits, to slow down, rest, and create space. Instead, we push on, in the name of productivity and progress, oftentimes without considering the implications. But for us to be truly effective and live in sustainable rhythms for our lives, we have to learn to rest. Not just stop or even slow down for a while, but true rest.
God’s plan was that we would have a rhythm of rest in our lives. He didn’t just talk about resting. He demonstrated it, and then created an entire plan for His people to experience a lifestyle of rest called the Sabbath. Imagine that?! God doesn’t just want you to rest, but showed us exactly what would be fruitful types of rest. More on that later...
For whatever reason, we find it hard to rest and experience renewal. Much of this seems to be driven by what motivates us to keep going. Often the fear of not having enough or even the shame about not being enough keeps us trapped in an overworked mindset. We allow these lies to lead us rather than God’s divine plan for rejuvenation.
In this 8-session prayer plan, we are going to explore 7 different types of rest, and how we can engage with rest in the entirety of our lives. My hope and prayer is that you will experience and encounter new levels of God’s love through rest as a result of this plan. So join us!
Prayer:
Father God, thank You that you gave us the ability and directive to rest. Not just slow down, but true rest. By Your love, I ask You to teach me how to rest and receive Your kindness every day. Help me to create a rhythm of rest and renewal in my life. I welcome Your peace in Jesus’ name, amen!
