Popular Isn’t the Same as True 

Can you think of a popular idea that clashes with what Jesus taught? Maybe a story you heard from a friend sounded a lot like truth, but it ended up being a rumor.

Seeing the truth is hard sometimes, especially when the truth is different from what’s popular. In today’s Bible story, Joshua, Caleb, and ten others were sent to explore Canaan, which was the land God had promised to the Israelites. The land was fruitful and beautiful. However, the people who lived there were HUGE! 

The report of these huge people spread throughout the camp and scared the Israelites. Yes, the people were big. But the truth was that God had promised to give Canaan to the Israelites. Everyone except for Caleb and Joshua was so frightened they couldn’t believe the truth God had told them.

In the fourth episode of “Out Of The Shadows,” Glacia wasn’t sure where to get her truth from because Nebulos had been lying to her. Check out this clip  to hear how Glacia finds truth.

Sometimes, the truth is hard to recognize. So Glacia did something really smart; she decided to get her truth from her code, and that changed everything. 

What the world says is true isn’t always what God says is true. Just as Glacia relied on her code,  we can always rely on the Bible to help us understand what’s true and what isn’t.

Ask Yourself: What’s the first thing you do when you hear something and you aren’t sure if it’s true? How can you use the Bible to help you decide if something is true?

Challenge Yourself: Memorize Ephesians 4:14. This verse helps us remember that not everything we hear is true and recognize that truth starts with knowing what the Bible says.

Pray: God, thank You for giving us the Bible to help us learn what’s true and what’s not. Please help me to see that just because something is popular doesn’t mean it’s true. In Jesus’s name, amen.
