Speak Your Name: Devotions and Declarations on the Reality of JesusSample
Jesus, My Sound Mind
God has given us a sound mind, but what exactly is a “sound mind”? I think many of us may hear the words “sound mind” and think, I just want to turn the sound off! Our minds, though they don’t have a mouth, never stop talking to us. We have thousands of different thoughts every day, which means we get thousands of different opportunities to dwell on life or death. Though often it may feel like our minds have authority over us and we don’t get to choose what we think, it's important to remember one of the many things we’ve been given through Jesus is a sound mind.
A sound mind is a fruit of the renewal of our minds. And the renewal of our minds comes from setting our minds on the beauty of Jesus and all that He has done for us.
Being “conformed to this world” is letting the world control your mind and have power over your thoughts. The thoughts produced by this world are the ones that don’t line up with the truth in His Word. The world's thoughts are death to your soul, but the Word of God is life to those who find it and health to all their flesh (see Proverbs 4:22). The Word of God is healthy to your mind!
To meditate on things that are true, noble, just, pure, lovely, of good report, and praiseworthy will bring peace to your heart and mind. God has given you authority over your mind. And you get to choose what you dwell on. There is so much power in what you believe and every belief system you have starts with one thought.
Have you ever noticed how you can hear of someone else dealing with a certain condition, whether it be a sickness or a circumstance, and you can immediately start thinking you have the same exact problem? It could be something as simple as ant stings and suddenly you start feeling incredibly itchy! This, my friend, is the power of your mind. The power of dwelling and meditating on things can actually change your reality.
Declaration Prayer:
Jesus, You are my sound mind. When I think of all You have done for me, my mind begins to change and be filled with peace. I know You have given me power and authority over every thought that rises up against Your name. I speak Your name over my mind, over my body, and over my soul. Jesus, captivate me with who You are and renew me from the inside out. In Jesus’ name; Amen.
About this Plan
Only one name has the power to heal sick and broken people, make blind eyes see clearly, and even to restore the dead to life again. Speaking that one name can eliminate fear, calm moments of intense anxiousness, and transform deeply rooted depression into a forever reality of blessing, favor, and peace. Jesus is that name--and it holds all power in both heaven and on earth.
