New Year Devotional: Selah Compassion ConversationsSample
The Light of the World
The true light that gives light to everyone was coming into the world.
—John 1:9
Selah
As we read this verse from the book of John, it is easy to focus on the repeated word. Light. But what if we looked at the impact of the word light and its reflection in our neighbourhoods?
The light was given to everyone. Christ’s redemption is for every person, not just one person or another, but everyone. Amid seasons like the one we are walking together now, it is easy to forget those who are lonely and forgotten, in their houses in our local communities.
Those in aged care and hospitals, who don’t get visited, or those whose home is found on the streets. The forgotten, the unsure, those who have lost connection in our communities.
Christ’s light was shed for all.
Reflection Question:
What is your understanding of the light of Christ for our communities?
Prayer:
Dear Jesus,
Fulfill your promise to those who have needs this year and help to set them in families. We reflect on the isolated, those without community and those who are afflicted. Please bring your light into their days.
Amen

About this Plan
We have officially started the year! The word “Selah” throughout scripture is used as an exclamation mark at the end of a verse to help us pause and reflect. As we take time to look back on the year that has passed, we want to invite you on a devotional journey about justice.
