Daily Bible Reading–January 2021 God's Word of LifeSample
January 22
Introduction
In Exodus 3:13-15, God’s name (I AM) is revealed to Moses. In John’s Gospel, Jesus’s use of the term “I am” connects him to God. (Yesterday’s reading included one of the seven “I am” passages in John’s Gospel.) When challenged about his identity, Jesus says “I Am Who I Am.” Jesus tells the people that those who believe in him will know the truth and that the truth will set them free from slavery to sin.
Today's Scripture Reading
John 8:21-47
Today’s Key Verse: John 8:31, 32
Jesus said to those who believed in him, “If you obey my teaching, you are really my disciples; you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
Reflect
Reread verses 31 and 32. What does being set free by the truth mean to you? Reread verse 39-47. What does Jesus say to those who claim to be Abraham’s children and when they claim that God is their Father? Jesus says that those who come from God listen to God’s words (verse 47).
In what ways do you listen for God’s words?
Pray
Lord Jesus, as your follower, I believe that your Word is truth that indeed sets me free. You have revealed God’s love to me, and I know that you are from God and have opened the way for me to listen to God’s words. Continue to guide me in the way of your truth each day. Amen.
