7 Attitudes to Enjoy Life

DAY 4 OF 7

LIVE WELL IN COMMUNITY - Fill yourself with the Holy Spirit

We cannot say that we do not care what others think about the way we live. That would be rather selfish on our part, as we do not live alone in this world, but we share our lives with others and, as followers of Jesus, we are called to love our neighbor. Our intention should be for God to think good things about how we live, but there is no way to please Him without loving people. So, we need to learn how to live well in a community.

The text of Ephesians 5 continues in verses 18 to 21 with three guidelines for living a wise life in a community. The first is:

  • Do not get drunk with wine, for that is debauchery, but be filled with the Spirit, addressing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody to the Lord with your heart.

It is far better to enjoy God's presence than earthly pleasures. Instead of meeting people to get drunk and do what leads to depravity, we should come together to enjoy God's presence, to bring God's love.

We need to be filled with that which brings life and strengthens our faith. The Holy Spirit will help us walk with Christ and lead other people to walk with Christ.

Let's pray? Lord God, I thank you for Your infinite love and for Your Holy Spirit that dwells in me. I don't want to be selfish, but I want to care about the people around me. Fill me with Your Holy Spirit until I overflow into other people's lives too. In the name of Jesus, amen.
