DAVID & THE FEAR OF GOD

Saul was jealous and held a grudge against David because he was the people’s favourite, which led to him plotting to end David’s life.  In today’s Scripture, we find David hiding in a cave out of fear for his life, even though he knew that he had done nothing wrong!

David had the opportunity to take revenge on Saul; to take Saul’s life in order to save his own. But David, knowing God had made Saul king, displayed a fear of God, and refused to act out of revenge and bitterness. 

David was aware that the same God who protected him from lions and bears when he was a shepherd boy, was the same God who would take care of his relational issues with Saul. He walked with a fear of God that surpassed all the circumstances and injustices life threw at him. 

How can we show the same fear of God as David when we get hurt by others through no fault of our own? We need to have a conscience as soft and sensitive towards God as David’s. 

Action: Is there anyone we are struggling with and having thoughts of revenge about? We need to release the person or situation into God’s hands, rather than taking matters into our own. Let’s bring them before God and ask Him what He wants us to know about them. How does what He says impact us? Could we place them in His hands to deal with, and feel a sense of release?
