Forty Days Without FearSample
OVERCOMING FEAR OF VULNERABILITY
One of the hardest things to do as a human being, is be vulnerable. Sadly, there is no pain-free guide to become more vulnerable, because the truth is, being vulnerable carries a risk every single time. The very definition of ‘vulnerability’ is to ‘expose yourself to the possibility of being attacked of harmed.’ By definition, it’s painful, but we serve a God who was open with His vulnerability.
Jesus, in the Garden of Gethsemane, was distraught - face down, crying out to God for the cup of death to pass from Him. Jesus was at His most vulnerable before God, unfiltered and unashamed.
Jesus wasn’t afraid that God would be disappointed in Him or think Him weak; He didn’t fear that God would hold that vulnerable information against Him. Jesus ran straight to God with His pain, holding nothing back, and He knew He could trust God with his innermost tormenting thoughts and secrets.
As followers of Christ, we are invited to do the same. God will never hold our vulnerabilities and fears against us: He will never betray our trust, and if we’re walking around with the weight of the world on our shoulders, remember God’s power is made perfect in our weakness. Today, like every day, the door is always open to exchange our pain, for His comfort and peace.
Action: Let’s be free to pray without a filter, trusting God will never betray our trust.
As we come to Him, naked and unashamed, and open our hearts to Him, what comfort and encouragement does He want to share with us?
