Get Back to You

DAY 1 OF 5

DAY 1: Intro

There have been so many times in my life when I’ve not felt like myself:

·  I didn’t feel like myself when I was working 80 hours a week at a nonprofit and pouring myself into my career right after college.

·  I didn’t feel like myself when I was single in my twenties and trying to figure out who I was when everyone around me seemed to be the exact thing I wasn’t: married.

·  I didn’t feel like myself when I volunteered to speak to college students all over the country even though I’d never spoken publicly in my life. I was trying something new and terrifying and felt like a complete fraud.

I’ve lost myself in my work, relationships, goals and in so many other seasons of my life as I tried to discover who I really was. But any time that happened, I’ve only ever wanted one thing: to get back to me.

Have you ever felt this way? Overwhelmed? Unfulfilled? Lost? Maybe you’ve been there before. Or maybe you feel this way right now. Maybe you’re fighting back those questions that keep you awake at night: Is this all there is? Who am I? Why do I feel stuck?

I don’t know if you’re in a season of changing diapers or living your life during nap time. I don’t know if you’re running around the clock trying to keep all those plates spinning. (I’ve been there.) But I believe that before your spouse or kids or job or any other role took over your life, you had a set of gifts, dreams and desires that you wanted to offer the world.

Friend, I believe you are so much more than your roles and responsibilities. You’re more than the job title you hold, and you’re more than your current circumstances. And I believe God is inviting you to discover what that more really is. He’s inviting you to get back to who He created you to be.

But in order to become the best and truest version of ourselves, we have to remember these four things:

1.  Who God Is: building your life on the truth in His Word.

2.  Who You Are: remembering what God says about you.

3.  Where You Are: finding strength for the season you’re in.

4.  Where You’re Going: getting your hopes up for the future God has for you.

So, over the next four days, I’m going to walk you through each of these things as we rediscover who God created you to be. At the end of each section, you’ll find some reflection questions that will help you dig deeper as you invite God into your journey.

I’m so honored to be on this journey with you as you start to live true to who you are and get back to who you were made to be.

Let’s do this!

Reflect

What roles and responsibilities do you carry right now? Do you feel overwhelmed or unfulfilled in them? What part of you are you hoping to get back to?

Spend some time in prayer and ask God to help you remember who you really are. Ask Him for clarity and discernment as you embark on this journey to get back to you.
