Crushing Racism

DAY 5 OF 5

The Diversity of Heaven Crushes Racism

The city of Houston is one of the most diverse cities in the United States of America. I love the fact that there is so much diversity in our church. We have people from at least 50 different countries of the world. Every time I look around, I see a portrait of heaven. I am lucky to have a taste of what heaven is going to look like, right here on earth!

Diversity is God’s plan and our destiny. Heaven will be filled with people from every nation, tribe, language, and color. The challenge God leaves to us on earth is to foretaste what heaven is going to look like. We must pursue racial diversity and harmony every way we can. May we, as the church of God, be the first to demolish racial barriers!

So, how can we foretaste God’s ultimate dream—people from every nation, tribe, and language living together in harmony? We do so by being intentional about our relationships. Look for friendships with people of other races and ethnic groups. Invite them to your home, learn from them, ask questions, listen to their struggles, and put yourself in their shoes. If you are intentional about it, God will teach you how to love them as He loved you.

We must lead the way! We have been silent for too long. When we have the opportunity, we must speak up and stand against racism. There is no basis for discrimination among the followers of Jesus Christ. If we want to be faithful followers of our Lord, we will labor, pray, love, and put an end to racism in our lifetime, because a racist mindset is completely incompatible with the cross, the mission of Christ, the command to love, and the nature of heaven.

I do not know if any of us are completely free of racism, because I know that we are not completely free of sin. For this reason, we desperately need to come to God in brokenness and repentance. Today, I encourage you to take some time in God’s presence and ask the Holy Spirit to expose racism in your heart and mind. Let us be quick to ask and receive forgiveness, grace, and love from Jesus Christ. We need to remind ourselves of the fact that our deepest and only true identity is in Jesus Christ. The cross, His mission, His command to love, and the nature of heaven crush racism to the core!

Prayer

Holy Spirit, I pray that You will bring to light and expose every root of racism in my life. Please forgive me. Teach me to love others as You love me. Help me to be intentional about my relationships and to crush racism in my heart. In Jesus’s name. Amen

Day 4

About this Plan

Crushing Racism

The world has no ultimate solution to racism, but we do! The gospel is the only real basis and foundation to end racism. Outside of Christ, we are still in our sin, which causes us to erect barriers; in Christ, they go down and we are reconciled with each other. Discover four biblical arguments that completely demolish racism in the gospel of Jesus Christ. Diversity is our destiny!
