Through It All
Can you imagine the unbearable pain of a mother seeing her child suffer, tortured and crucified? It is the most painful experience any parent could ever go through. Mary had been there at the beginning and the end of Jesus’ ministry. He was with her as a son, she held him in her arms as He grew up, He lived with her. Mary was there with Him during His ministry. It was she who encouraged Him at the wedding in Cana, and now she is with Him at the cross. Jesus would well understand his mother’s pain and her great suffering, just as Simeon had predicted years before, like a sword piercing through her soul. We agonize with her but at the same time we are reminded of Jesus’ humanity. He was a real human being and He truly suffered for us. He bore our sin and our shame on that cross. He took it on for you and me. Let us always be grateful for all that Jesus has done for us.
Prayer: Lord, thank you for bearing my sin on the cross. You laid aside your Majesty and became flesh to dwell amongst us. You understand and sympathize with our weaknesses, so we can come to your throne fully confident of your love and mercy and to find grace to help in time of need. In Jesus' Name I pray, Amen.
