Family Christmas: A Devotional for KidsSample
A Blessing to All Families
By Danny Saavedra
“Understand, then, that those who have faith are children of Abraham.” – Galatians 3:7 (NIV)
One day, God asked a man named Abraham to pack up his stuff, leave his parents and his home, and move to a faraway place. God also made Abraham a promise that day—a promise that a great nation would come from his family and be blessed.
But here’s the crazy part: Abraham was 75 years old and didn’t have any children yet. Abraham wondered how God would give him a family since he was an old man without any children, let alone a big family. But God revealed his plan. In fact, God told Abraham to count the stars in the sky because that would be the number of people in his family. That sure is a lot!
And guess what? Despite the odds, and even though it didn’t make any sense, Abraham believed God’s promise about his family would come true. That’s why Abraham is called the father of faith. He believed in God’s promise, even when it seemed crazy.
The story of Christmas is about Jesus coming to earth to save us from our sins and to spend forever with Him in heaven. All we have to do is put our faith in Him. The story of Abraham teaches us that there’s nothing that we can do to earn God’s promises except receiving them through faith. Take the time to thank God for sending His Son Jesus.
