Trusting in the Name
By Danny Saavedra
“And she will have a son, and you are to name him Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.” – Matthew 1:21 (NLT)
Over the past few days, we’ve read about some unexpected and surprising characters that are all a part of Jesus’ family. From Rahab to Josiah and everyone in between, even though their stories were different, we see one thing throughout each of them: they all trusted and believed in God.
The people God chose to be Jesus’ parents were no different. Mary was a young girl who wasn’t even married yet, and her fiancée Joseph was a poor carpenter. One day, an angel suddenly appeared before Mary and told her she would have a baby boy and name him Jesus. Mary was confused. She was not yet married to Joseph, so how could she have a baby now? Even though this seemed crazy, she trusted God.
But let’s not forget about Joseph. He was in a difficult position when he found out Mary was pregnant. During that time, pregnancy before marriage was a serious crime, and Mary could have gotten in a lot of trouble. But, like Mary, Joseph trusted in Jesus! When an angel asked Joseph to take Mary as his wife, he obeyed without hesitation.
What do you do when God asks you to do something difficult? Do you do it willingly or just ignore God? Mary and Joseph obeyed God, even though it was really hard. When it comes to being part of Jesus’ family, it’s all about trusting in the name of Jesus.
