WHAT GOD DESIRES
There is a fable about a minister who left the ministry to become a doctor. When asked why, he said, "I found people will pay more for the welfare of their body than soul." A few years later, this same man left his medical practice to become a lawyer. Asked why he did this, he replied, "I found men will pay far more to get their own way than for care of either soul or body." Tragically, that is too often true in human nature.
Men and women often do pay great prices to get their own way. People of meekness and a quiet spirit are indeed rare. Peter mentions the one thing that means much to God is for a person to adorn himself with the ornament of Christ-likeness. He adds: For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, And His ears are open to their prayers; But the face of the Lord is against those who do evil.
Our age is an age of demanding equal rights and of getting one's way. It is refreshing to find men and women who are like God's Son--gentle and considerate. Let us pledge, by the help of God, we will be of such character. Peter notes: For He who would love life And see good days, Let him refrain his tongue from evil, And his lips from speaking deceit. Let him turn away from evil and do good; Let him seek peace and pursue it (1 Peter 3:10).
