Illuminate

DAY 8 OF 38

We were all children once, we remember being afraid of something and spending hours worrying. We were convinced that the boogie man was under the bed, or that the “flash flood warning” was going to wash the house away.  No matter how many hours our parents spent explaining that there was no boogie man and we don’t live anywhere near water, we could not stop worrying. My son hated storms. I remember my wife and I diving for the remote to hit the mute button because all he needed to hear was that loud annoying beep, followed by the scary voice saying that “the national weather service..…“, you know the rest….and there was no sleeping until the storm had passed.

With a little research you can find many references to how many times “do not worry”, “do not be afraid”, “fear not” and “no fear” are mentioned in the Bible.  Regardless of which translation you prefer, the fact is that it’s mentioned a lot! To worry or fear may be human, but if we listen to what God is telling us, He does not want us to do it. So, if it’s not from God and He does not want us to do it, where is it coming from and why is the evil one putting it there? To distract us and prevent us from living a full life? Or to make us doubt God’s love and protection in our life?

He wants us to give our worries and our fears over to him and live a life of peace. Which “boogie man” or “flash flood warning” can you give to God and trust Him with?

About this Plan

Illuminate

Jesus said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness again, but will have the light of life.” In this daily Bible reading plan, Illuminate, we study the teachings of Jesus found in the Gospel of Luke chapters 12-17. In these passages of Scripture, Jesus sheds light on the kingdom of God and guides us to live our lives in light of eternity.
