Illuminate

DAY 35 OF 38

This simple scripture is so fascinating to me.  Jesus is teaching and pouring into the disciples. And while he is speaking, they emphatically ask Jesus to increase their faith.  Jesus is challenging the disciples to forgive others.  Jesus even commands them to forgive a person who sins against them seven times in one day!  This was obviously a challenging concept for the disciples to digest. So much so, they interrupt Jesus and ask him to increase their faith. For context, it is important to understand that Jesus had already performed many amazing miracles in the presence of his disciples. Jesus had healed the sick, cast out demons, raised the dead and calmed a storm. Yet, the disciples implored Jesus to increase their faith. Having witnessed all of these miracles and being in the physical presence of Jesus, you would think their faith would be overflowing and able to do almost anything.

Is there someone in your life that you need to forgive?  Are you finding it difficult and you don’t know if your faith is strong enough?  Well be encouraged, because Jesus’ closest friends found themselves in the very same place. If you are in a season in which your faith could use a boost, I would encourage you to follow the example the disciples provide and ask Jesus to increase your faith.

About this Plan

Illuminate

Jesus said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness again, but will have the light of life.” In this daily Bible reading plan, Illuminate, we study the teachings of Jesus found in the Gospel of Luke chapters 12-17. In these passages of Scripture, Jesus sheds light on the kingdom of God and guides us to live our lives in light of eternity.
