God’s Love Endures ForeverSample
The Most Shocking Thing About Jesus
The most shocking thing about Jesus might not be his death. I can’t imagine his death on a cross—the crown of thorns, the nails, the pain—but what really shocks me is Jesus’ life. Because for his entire life, his love endured forever. He didn’t run out of love a single time. He never, ever, ever said, “I’m done.” He never rolled his eyes at Mary or talked back to Joseph (not even when they told their 12-year-old to do his chores). Jesus loved and then loved and then loved some more, a walking and talking Psalm 136. He obeyed his Father, then obeyed the next day, and then obeyed his whole life. He remembered our sinful situation, our lives filled with temporary love, so he loved for us. Jesus constantly loves for us. His love endures forever. “Give thanks to the God of heaven. His love endures forever” (Psalm 136:26).
That means that through faith in Jesus, you get love that endures forever. No matter what fails or sputters or ends, the best part of your life never will—God. The God who can calm your storms, who cares about your anxiety, who controls the economy, who knows every last hair on your head, who’s enough for your heart, who’s near in your struggles is the same God whose love endures forever.
There are many reasons to praise Jesus. But Jesus’ life of constant love just might be the most shocking thing and most praiseworthy thing about him.
