Claim Your Inheritance

Numbers 27 tells the story of five daughters who were mourning the unfortunate death of their father. Without sons to carry on his legacy, the father's inheritance, family name, and generational impact would be cut off forever. The law stated that only sons could receive a father's inheritance, leaving daughters in a state of inequality and dependency on their brothers or husbands upon a father's death. Rather than ranting and raving, his five unmarried daughters gathered together and recognized that if they remained broken and silent, their father's legacy would end, and his inheritance goes unclaimed.

A sudden boldness took over their hearts as they approached the Tabernacle. They called on Moses, Eleazar (the priest), all the tribal leaders, and anyone else nearby. They explained that their father was not one of Korah's followers, who revolted against the Lord; he had died a natural death in the wilderness. Why should the name of their father disappear just because he had no male heirs? With great resolve and wisdom, the daughters made a formal request to be given property along with their uncles as rightful heirs to their father's kingdom.

Shut the front door! Have you ever read that Scripture? I had never seen that passage before until my friend sent it to me during one of my writing sessions on this book. These women were world-shakers, history makers, and law changers. They shifted women's rights and positioned daughters as rightful heirs to the Kingdom legacy.

These women used wisdom, logic, and God's favor to gain the attention of the powers that be. This is a huge lesson for women today. The enemy would love to silence you and steal your inheritance. He would also love for you to think your battle is against men in high places. He wants you to go into "beast mode" and muscle up like a man, strap on a suit, or drop the neckline to get what is rightfully yours. But Scripture shows us that a woman's femininity, discernment, wisdom, and courage are enough to shift kingdoms and save nations.

How can you take the lead from these five women and get what is yours?

Prayer: Holy Spirit, give me extra courage and boldness today to claim my inheritance. Give me wisdom on how to get what is rightfully mine in You. I pray this in the mighty name of Jesus, Amen.
