Made To Shine: Enjoy & Reflect God's LightSample
Let It Be
Imagine that you were asked this question on a popular game show: What is the most common phrase used to end a prayer?
Even if you are not an active Christ-follower, you most likely would be able to answer correctly without even having to “phone a friend” for help.
We have been conditioned to end our prayers with “amen,” but do we understand what this phrase actually means? This Hebrew word is literally translated “let it be,” stemming from the verb “to be firm or sure.”
When the apostle Paul was instructing Timothy of God’s impeccable timing, he inserted this prayer,
He is the only One who never dies. He lives in light so bright no one can go near it. No one has ever seen God, or can see Him. May honor and power belong to God forever. Amen (I Timothy 6:16 NCV).
Paul describes God as both eternal and brilliantly bright. He gives us the impression that God’s light is so bright that it’s hard to see His features. That’s how worthy of our honor and praise He is. The “amen” is the punctuation mark at the end of this, letting us know that we can be sure this is so. Or in other words, let it be!
This concept can also relate to us when we speak out His promises in our everyday lives. God, You said that I am the apple of Your eye. I am sure that I am.
Jesus, You said to go and make disciples and with Your help I am willing to go. Let it be!
When we infuse our prayer life with this kind of belief, knowing that He is a firm and sure foundation, it can bolster our faith. Lord, let it be so!
God, we turn to You as our sure and firm foundation. We want to pray with certainty that You are fully in control of our lives. Let it be!
